STUDY PERMITS (STUDENT VISAS)

Study Permits are not required for courses that last six months or less. If your program will be longer than six months, you should apply for a Study Permit at the closest Canadian Embassy or Consulate, before coming to Canada. Before applying, you should obtain a Letter of Acceptance from the school.

A Medical Examination is often required for any student who will be in Canada for five months, or longer. The processing time for Medical Examinations can be two to three months. Consequently, you should have a Medical Examination done as soon as you know that you will be coming to Canada. If you do not have enough time to wait for the results of the Medical examination, you may first apply for a 16-week program, and a 16-week Study Permit. You may then take the Medical Examination and apply for an extension of your Study Permit, after you arrive to Canada.
